A New Lodge Opens in Queenstown
New Zealand’s North Island Lodges, Kauri Cliffs Lodge and The Farm at Cape Kidnappers now have a sister lodge in Queenstown, the scenic capital of the South Island. Matakauri Lodge has recently opened and is a welcome addition to the luxury accommodation available in this popular area which is fast becoming a ‘destination for golfers’.
The alpine lakeside retreat boasts eleven luxurious suites designed by acclaimed interior designer Virginia Fisher, a stylish and spacious main lodge with plenty of dining and living areas to relax in. Set on the edge of Lake Wakatipu, the lodge gazes up at the peaks of the Remarkables mountain range from its fabulous location.
As well as its scenic acclaim, Queenstown now has four top class golf courses with the addition in recent years of Jack’s Point and the exclusive Hills joining the established Millbrook Resort’s championship layout - which is now 27 holes - and the unique Arrowtown Golf Club.
Critical Praise for New Zealand Golf Resorts
“New Zealand is a travel destination like no other. Its stunning natural beauty, friendly people, great food and wine and a fascinating Maori culture make it one of the most visited places in the world. But there is more – the country also offers a great golfing experience at Cape Kidnappers, one of the premier golfing addresses of the world, which is rated as the top golf resort by The Daily Telegraph in UK”.
The above is the opening paragraph in a recent golf travel article in ‘Golf Style’ magazine which is one of an increasing number of publications to spread the word that New Zealand is now a golfing destination.
A number of high class golf courses have appeared in recent years. Cape Kidnapper’s spectacular sister resort course, Kauri Cliffs, set the bench mark when opened nearly 10 years ago. More recently Kinloch, New Zealand’s only Jack Nicklaus course, and Queenstown’s awe inspiring Jack’s Point have, with others, combined to form the basis for mouth watering golfing itineraries.
One of the already well established golfing resorts, Millbrook, has also recently drawn high praise. Australia’s prestigious Luxury Travel and Style magazine and its Virtuoso client readership has placed Millbrook number 4 in its Golf List of best overseas golf resorts, behind Scotland’s legendary St Andrews course, Pebble Beach in California and New Zealand’s afore mentioned Kauri Cliffs. Rare praise indeed for the resort that earlier this year opened a new nine holes, designed with careful consideration to the natural landscape.
Pacifica ‘Friendship’ Cup
Millbrook featured as the host resort to our Pacifica ‘Friendship’ Cup Week that was held in March. All participants would agree with the resort’s recent acclaim and combined with golf also at Jack’s Point GC and the attractions of the Queenstown area, everyone had a week to remember. This was ANZ Golf’s 7th Pacifica Cup event and definitely one of the best. Look out for an 8th Pacifica in 2012!
